Village Gathering

Urban Village’s first village gathering of 2009: Sunday, February 22 6:30pm at NorthStar Community Church in the education building.
This gathering will be hosting 2 guests: Jimmie Gillespie & Jamal Jivanjee.

Jimmie Gillespie is a worshipper of Jesus Christ. Jimmie was born in Seneca, South Carolina and began following Christ as a young boy. When he was 11 years old his family moved to Lynchburg, Virginia where he grew up. In 1997 Jimmie began college at Liberty University and soon after felt the Lord leading him into music. During his time at Liberty, Jimmie led worship for Light Ministries, a traveling team whose emphasis is global missions. After graduation he moved to Columbus, Ohio where he helped lead a college campus church at The Ohio State University. Since that time God has taken him on a journey that has rearranged and reshaped him as a worshipper. That journey has taken him into many countries around the world and has awakened his heart to the truth that God’s glory truly is filling the whole earth. Jimmie leads a ministry called Worship Overflow and he and his wife Rachel have one child, Noah James. They currently live in Northeast Ohio.

Jamal Jivanjee is currently serving as the executive director of illuminate. illuminate was founded in January 2007, but prior to that Jamal served as the lead pastor of newlife-osu, (www.newlife-osu.org) a collegiate church at The Ohio State University.

In addition to his duties with illuminate, Jamal has a passion to travel the world in discovery of what the Lord is doing in the church globally. Growing up in the Columbus Ohio area, Jamal Jivanjee was raised by a devout Shiite Muslim father of Asian Indian decent from east Africa, and a very conservative Catholic mother who was raised on a farm in rural Ohio. Jamal’s quest for the truth led him out of Islam and Catholicism, and down some perilous roads, but eventually to Christ as a young adult. Jamal went on to become a graduate of Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA where he studied Pastoral ministry.

Jamal’s wife Brandie is a vital part of illuminate’s day to day functions. Brandie serves illuminate in an administrative capacity, handling all the necessary tasks that require this ministry to operate. Brandie also enjoys traveling as well as home schooling their teenage daughter Jessica. Jamal, Brandie, and Jessica also recently relocated to the Nashville TN. area from Columbus, Ohio.

What you can expect from the Village Gathering:

You will get a chance to hear Urban Village’s heart for planting the gospel in the city and how you can partner with us in this unique mission and vision.

We are always compelled and committed to opening the scripture, the Holy, inspired word of God. Listening and learning how we can expand in wisdom and deed in our pursuit of becoming more like Jesus. This is our central theme in gathering.

We are always dreaming of creative ways to convey the story of God. Every month we look forward to a new element of Christ’s creative expression among us as we worship together and seek him. Utilizing the medium of art, poetry, dance, media and music we are excited by the possibilities of artisans that are emerging from within our city, community and networks who will help us see Jesus in ways we could not without their bold, beautiful and brilliant talents.

We are looking forward to getting to know your story as we have the opportunity to meet you.
